Chairs

 Ok, Ok.
It's true, I have been neglecting my poor blog.
There, I admitted it.
But just so you know, I haven't been sitting around eating bon-bons and watching soap operas.
(I'm starting to sound like my mother!)
I have been working. Hard.
chair
We scored 6 chairs at a thrift store for $20.
Yep. $20.
Now I just have to take them apart.
I needed a good project.
unupholsetered chair
So I have been working hard taking all the staples out.
Apparently, when these were made (in the 80's) they had to put about a million
staples to hold things together!
I am so tired of taking out staples!!
I was trying to wait until I finished them to show you, but since, we don't have the fabric
for them yet..... oohhh.... the joys of living in a small town.
We are going to find fabric in 2 weekends. Hopefully we can find something good!
(I know that is a loooonngg time, but we have to travel about 1 1/2 hours to Vegas,
and with gas prices we don't just make that on a whim)
Wish me luck!!

Another thing that has my almost undivided attention would be:
I am re-reading this to make sure I am all good for the movie.
I try really hard not to let movies excite me because they are never as good as my imagination.
But this one is getting to me!
Are you excited?

Mu-Mu Refashion

Many of you have read that I just had my 24th birthday
so I am getting up there in years,
so I thought I needed a mu-mu.
Actually not really,
I am aware I am still young and not afraid to act like it too!
Anyway, I got this mu-mu when I was in Idaho.
Everyone thought I was crazy,
for picking this up at a thrift store,
but I really liked the print.
It reminds me of all the tribal prints I have seen lately.
PLUS, it came with a cool printed belt!
Who cares that I can wrap it around me twice!?
I just had to show you the tag,
I thought it was funny.
"For Better Fit"
Especially when there was no shape whatsoever to this mu-mu.
I just made this simple skirt with it.
I cut off the length I wanted and added a waistband.
The length hits me right at the knee.
Here's the back,
I used the front of the dress for the back of my skirt.
I just used the existing buttons for the closure.
I thought it was pretty cleaver.

I was going to take pictures of me in the skirt,
but they never turn out just right,
so I am trying this new method to take pictures of
thing I have made.
Do you like it?
Tell me honestly.

Another trip

I took another trip to my favorite thrift store
I scored some awesome usually REALLY expensive fabric.
The white is the king flat sheet
The white with the flowers was $.50
The blue DANCE/SWIM WEAR was $.50
The plaid was $2.00 for 3 yards
The dark blue polka dot was $2.00 for 3 yards
The white with polka dots $3.00 for 5 yards

I think I did pretty well.

A Tribute to My Closing Thrift Store

My thrift store closed on Sept. 16th.
Tear...
But before they closed, I spent a couple hours rummaging through.
Here is all I found.

This awesome green glass vase with rope detail.

This fun glass container with silver lid.
This was my most expensive item coming in at $2.00!
Does anyone know anything about this container?
Tobacco? Perfume?

This yellow lid jar. I tried as hard as I could, but I couldn't get the writing off.
Even with a magic eraser!
Any ideas on that too?

A compression seal lid jar.
I use it for my markers.

You've seen this before, but I still wanted to show you.
This totally rad octagon shaped jar with lid.
Sorry for the crappy picture, but this is everything I got, for $18!
10 Shirts
1 Dress
1 Basket
4 Wood Frames
6 Glass Jars/Containers
1 Pillow Form
I went back for some books and more frames!

My Birthday Present

Thrifted vintage fabric!!

There is so much fun stuff at this thrift store, so much fabric, for nothing!!
I couldn't resist most of the fabric there, so I got so much of it!

The coolest fabric is the seer-sucker. The floral and striped fabric.
It is really super awesome.
Above the red floral there is a bright blue, with random white flowers.
I love how random it is. I now just have to decide what to do with it!
The "white" is actually a light yellow knit. It is SUPER soft.

I love this awesome vintage polyester.
The brown is another knit.
The blue is a corduroy.
The white is a tube knit. Awesome!!!
But I did save the best for last!
Check it out!
$9.25?!?
Some of the knits are $9.00 a yard by themselves!
I was super excited to find the knits.

Side Note:
We also scored this Lodge 10" cast iron dutch oven for $10!
This actual dutch oven goes for $55
Needless to say,
we had an awesome day at thrift stores.

Made out like a bandit!

I went to a couple thrift stores today, and had some fun!
I think total on ALL of this, was $7!!
I know don't be too jealous.
(I had to include the 101 Dalmatians book too .12cents!)
All of the stores I went to were having major "back to school" sales.
My favorite sale 3 patterns for 25cents! YEP!
I didn't know that until I was at the checkout or else I would have gotten about 50 more!
Brown Felt: $1 for 1 yard
Brown  Striped: $4 for 4 yards
Black striped Maxi dress: $1.50
Crochet Book: 25cents
Thanks Valerie Jessup for this pattern!
I just couldn't resist some of these!!
An awesome wrap shirt, another one I couldn't resist!
This hood looks big enough to hold all of my hair, and I just love the shape of it.
Especially using some really modern fabric, with this vintage shape.
OH MAN!
I can't wait for winter to make this!!

Dollar Store Wreath

I have been very inspired with what people have been doing with dollar store wreaths,
so I decided to add my idea to the pool!
Here is what I did...
the fabric was left over from making valances for my kitchen.
They are about 1 1/4" wide by 45 long. I used 2 of them for the wreath.
Some hot gluing later
Took some coordinating scraps
And tied them around the wreath
TA-DA!
Easy, simple wreath. It is hanging over my kitchen sink, and I love it!
 Have fun!

Recent thrifting

When I got that bed sheet that I can't get enough of, apparently.... I also found some other good things.
I am sad I didn't get to look around more though, I came in 30 minutes before closing.
Who can really look through a thrift store in 30 minutes?  I mean, REALLY look?
The skirt is unfortunately too small for me, but since it is so gathered, I will be able to fix that, easily.
I found some awesome patterns,
I think I am going to make these for me!
I love the look on the model's face in the sepia toned picture. She looks like she is going to kill someone.
