Pattern Drafting

Here I am going to show you how to draft a simple change to a basic bodice to make a blocked bodice similar to the Easter dress I made for Kels.

The Supplies needed:

Bodice Pattern Pen Scissors Scrap Paper Ruler (Not Pictured) Tape Protractor although not necessary

Step 1: Measure down from the center 2 1/2”

Step 2: Use a protractor to make another line that is “squared” with previous mark.

Step 3:Draw a line across entire pattern piece.

Step 4: Cut on the line

Step 5: Tape the top of the bodice front to a scrap piece of paper.

Step 6: Add seam allowance. I measured 1/2” down. Cut out the new pattern piece and label.

Step 7: Tape the bottom of the bodice front to a scrap piece of paper

Step 8: Add seam allowance. I measured 1/2” up. Cut out the new pattern piece and label.

Step 9: Congratulate yourself! You just drafted the front of the blocked bodice pattern.

Step 10: Take the new bodice top pattern piece and lay it on the back bodice. Draw a line at the end of the top piece.

Step 11: Cut on the line.

These next steps are no longer pictured, but you’re awesome. You can do it. Just refer to the other pictures about adding seam allowance if you have a problem.

Step 12: Add the seam allowance to the bottom bodice back. This time add 1”

Because, when we traced the “new” top bodice back piece it had the 1/2” seam allowance already added. So for the bottom bodice back we need to add the 1/2” back on, plus an additional seam allowance.

I got the itch

 As I am sure many of you have felt the change in the weather.

Even in the desert the weather is turning beautiful! 

But even if it is still 75 outside, 

I have started to get my yarn out. 

Yes the itch to crochet! 

This project started with just the blue ring,

which was first just a bracelet. 

Many of you might know, 

my husband and I have been trying to get pregnant again, 

for over a year.

So "baby" has been on my mind! 

 So I thought if I can crochet one ring, how about a whole bunch of rings!!

(by a whole bunch, I mean 3)

 But I thought I would share my little pattern that I made for this,

crochet chain.

You could totally do this on a smaller scale 

and make an awesome loopy necklace, or even bracelet!

PATTERN:

This pattern is done in an amiguriumi style.

With continued rounds. 

(I haven't written a pattern in a while 

so if this makes no sense, just email me!)

Crochet hook size F 

Chain 30

Connect with Slip Stitch 

Double check there is no turning

R1-3: Single Stitch in every stitch.

R4: Back loops only

R5-6: Stitch in every stitch

Turn bottom inside.

Match stitches

R7: Work around with slip stitch 

Weave in ends. 

ALL DONE!

To add more and more links to the chain, 

string on the finished loop to the foundation chain. 

This pattern can be used to make a bracelet if that's what you want! 

Like I am in labor....

So finally this is posted. For some reason this pattern has given me TONS of problems! 

This is actually not been fun for me to do,

and I love doing this! 

But I prevailed! I am smarter than fabric! 

What an accomplishment! 

Anyway, this is the tutorial for the dress that won this vote.

Here it the pattern.

Gather all of your pieces. I am making this a top, not a dress, but this can be whatever you want! 

That is the joy of sewing your own clothes. 

(A tunic would be SO cute!

Maybe with some ruffles at the bottom...

Step 1: Sew the sleeves to the front. 

The sleeve sides are different. The sides should line up with either the front or the back.

Double check which direction the sleeves are being sew on.  

Step 2: Sew the sleeves to the back.

Now comes the hardest part of the whole thing!! 

Step 3: The key hole. Place the template on the seam. 

Cut around the template, if you have a serger, serge the edge. 

Then hem. 

If you don't have a serger, just hem the neck, including the key hole. 

Start where the key hole was cut out of the sleeve. 

Then continue around. I found that to be the easiest!

I know it is not very pretty, because I had "help."

The black lines are where to put the button. 

(I did this after all the hemming was done) 

Step 4: Sew up the sides.

Step 5: Add your button. I used a button and elastic closure. 

I know I used white thread on this red fabric. But because I had "help" I didn't feel like changing the thread.

I didn't realize how dirty this mirror was until this picture. 

She is wearing it over other clothes.

But I still think it is pretty cute. 

If are planning on making this a dress, 

add the belt loops on the sides where the natural waist is located.

 Then thread through your belt. Simple as that! 

Workout Short Pattern

I guess I did this a little backwards, but you get the point. 

You know what to do with a pattern!

I did not put the accent trim on the actual pattern, 

because I am slightly lazy today. 

But it is not hard, 

Cut pieces of fabric about 1 1/4"x14" 

I always cut extra length on trim just in case. 

 The Tutorial just in case you might need the link.

The dress pattern, has everything you need, the body and sleeve. 

Cut out your pieces. I added some length to the pattern in order to make it a dress.

2 sleeves and 2 dress pieces

Sew the sleeves on

Sew the sides up

Make casing for elastic

On this dress I did put elastic in the sleeves, I just don't have a picture.
