A great technique

This is a great gathering technique for thick fabric such as leather or for sensitive fabric like silks.
All you need is crochet thread.
Set your machine to the widest Zig-Zag stitch and the longest stitch your machine has.
Line up your crochet thread in the center of your presser foot.
Then sew!
The biggest thing is to make sure you don't sew the crochet thread.
Pull the crochet to gather!
That's it.
With this technique it is easier to move the gathers,
but more difficult to keep them as gathers.
Just another way to gather fabric! Have a great weekend!

If you are having problems not sewing the crochet thread to your project you can also use fishing line.. I keep some around just for this reason. It glides a lot easier under the thread. And if your needle gets too close it will often bounce off of it or push it to the side. I like to use a zipper foot or one with a groove in it to keep the fishing line in place while you zig zag..

If you have a serger this is also a great way to gather and finish the edge at the same time.
