Truly Scrumptious

I watched a classic the other day,
the whole time I was watching this movie,
I was just amazed by
Truly.
Even though this movie was made in 1968,
I was totally inspired!
Just look!
Just look at those dresses! The white dress has such a full organza skirt.
It's just beautiful!
Not to mention the hats!
The piping detail on the bottom of the skirt is so amazing.
The crochet shawl and silk skirt combination, oh dear!
I love these swimsuits!
How modest and simple!
Halloween is coming,
costumes anyone?

I'm amazed

Okay,
okay....
I was pursuing around the Anthroplogie website,
and
BAM!
I found this.
Doesn't this remind you of anything?!
Holy COW!
I had no idea they had something like this!
Seriously, no idea!
I think it's pretty exciting.
But get this, the real bracelet is $158,
mine was free!
YES!
I'm going to tell my hubby I just saved him, $158.

Reading Kick

Well I have been some what on a reading kick right now.
I have been blasting through books like crazy.
This book I borrowed from the library today,
and finished reading today, as well.

I LOVE THIS BOOK.

It really inspired be to be better and
inspired me all around.

I highly recommend it to anyone.
It is a children's book, so it is a pretty easy read.
So GO! to your public library
and not only borrow some craft books, but get this book as well!

Retro storage

I finished it!!!
It only took me about 3 times as long as I thought it would.
GA!
Any who...
I am in love with Chevron patterns right now. I have a little painting I am also doing at the moment with the same pattern.
Obsessed much?
This is what I use it for. All of my unfinished projects.
That fabric on top I am making a fun dress out of using my dressform!
So just because plastic canvas might seem totally dated and old fashioned you can still do some cool things with it. I am going to make some more, but on a smaller scale!

Heirlooms

Heirlooms are pretty cool.
I am the youngest daughter in my family, so I am not going to be getting really anything like jewelery or houses from my grandparents. Although I will say that this most recent time I visited my parents, I did get some fun things.
This would have to be my favorite. This is a knitting needle holder thing.
It was my great grandmothers, who traveled through Ellis Island!
I have always loved this, the bright colors of the flowers, and all the pointy objects inside.
I have since incorporated my crochet hooks with my great grandmas, but I still love looking at hers.
I don't think I will ever use them for fear of breaking them, because some of them are bone!
But I do love them and cherish them.
heirloom knitting needles?! Oh sad am I??

Since I am talking about Great Grandma's.... my Grandma on my mother's side.
She had retinitis pigmentosa or "tunnel vision" but she never stopped crafting.
Plastic canvas was her thing.
She had a whole plastic canvas town underneath the Christmas tree, with the train.
I always was amazed by her, because she really couldn't see, but she still did what she loved.
This next project has been inspired by her, here is just a sneak peek

I thought I would be done by now, but it is taking forever!!

Are they asking for it?

I love J.Crew they have such great stuff that just begs to be copied.
Take this dress for example.
A shirt with some little extra stuff.

So I got a shirt, this is a "Layers" shirt given to me by my sister.
It was actually for my niece, but she doesn't like close fitting clothes.

I took an old shirt and cut into into about 2" stripes.

The started to sew. Really tough.
Actually really easy. Sew them right sides together.
That's it.

I added a little belt from another dress, because I think it's cute!

It's a little big, but I am not too worried. She is always growing.

I love it. Another simple, really cute refashion!

I have had lots of questions about this dress,
which I try to answer in another post.

Copy Cat

I got these shorts for my daughter yesterday, for a family picture coming up.
I thought they were so cute and what made it even better, $5!!
Anyway I was looking at them this morning, thinking how much I like them,
maybe I should go to the store and get some more...
Wait!! I know!
Make a pattern!
So I sat down while watching Tinkerbell with my daughter, and drafted a pattern,
and cut it out. Here are all the pieces!
Holy Moley!
That's a lot for shorts for a 2 year old!
I was attempting some sewing techniques that I have never attempted before, and
some worked out better than others.
That's for sure. It's hard to tell but I am trying to make a
"single welt pocket"
Can you see the mistake?!!?
(the fabric on top is supposed to be the other way)
oops!
Don't worry I fixed it.
I even did a zipper front fly! My first time. I think I did pretty well.
I am proud of myself for that one!
Side by side, what do you think??

Extra features that are hard to see:
adjustable waistband
side pockets (which makes a grand total of 4 pockets)
belt loops
major huge hem for future growth.

Can you tell that I am a little proud of these copy cat shorts?

Someone is hiding

She has found a new place to hide. Unfortunately the location of it is not great....
Underneath my craft table, and usually while I am sewing.
I looooooove it.
Just LOVE it.
I think my next project will be a fort for her, so she can climb in that.
Something like this from missprettypretty store on etsy
Or just a classic tee-pee, simple nothing special tee-pee.
Or I might as well take out a small loan, to build this, just for a few minutes of peace and quiet.

And I only have one child....
