I think many of us are aspiring photographers. Just admit it.

But let's be honest,

who can really afford a backdrop?

Seriously?

They are like $100-$300.

That's just for the backdrop, don't forget about the flooring,

and the baseboards, and the lights, blah blah blah.....

The list is long....

Well, to make this long story short, I was at the dollar store the other day,

and well I found these...

Contact paper! Apparently, people use this for lining in cabinets and such,

but the clear stuff, I use for laminating.

There is so many uses for contact paper!

I have seen wood print contact paper at WalMart too, but $8...

GA! I'm so cheap.

Anyway, I saw this and my brain got turning.

I remembered I had this roll of paper.... I know!

(Oh you guys are going to love me!!)

I'm going to make some backdrops.

Oh yeah!

I stared with the edges, and lined it up as best as I could.

If you just leave the contact paper on the roll and pull the flimsy white stuff off slowly,

you shouldn't get any bubbles.

Just go slow and a few inches at a time.

Then I went down the center.

All done!

Here's the rundown:

12 rolls of contact paper

White Paper on hand

which made 2 backdrops

and 2 flooring drops

Total: $12

I just saved myself over $500!

I call that a win.

Here are the backdrops in action!

Please excuse what my daughter is wearing and her hair, oh, and the rubber band.

I let her get dressed by herself, and I was too lazy to tame that wild mane!

See how awesome! I don't have any baseboards, but I just couldn't wait to show you!

Looks pretty good right?

If you look closely you can see where the pattern doesn't line up, but come on $3??

There is a downside to them,

but I think it would be the same with professional backdrops,

they need to be completely flat.

As you can see by my daughters feet,

that is where the tile changes to carpet, so there's a tiny bump.

I don't find this a huge deal for what I paid for them.

Also, the light green backdrop,

if the background is in focus,

you can see the lines, where is over laps.

Again, I don't find this a big deal, I'll just blur the backgrounds!

My 1st Portraits

Well, I got to take some portraits the other day,

and I had a blast!

I think she did too.

I heard Sheri talking with her sister,

saying she looked hot in the pictures.

So I guess, job well done!

I didn't get paid, for this, I am just learning.

I am just experimenting with this new lens,

and gaining experience.

Here are some before and afters:

I really didn't do much editing,

I, personally, am not a big fan,

of extremely edited pictures....

At least for portraits.

With some of my Christmas money,

I got a new pair of shoes!

I love them!

Plus they were so cheap!

$17, I couldn't help myself.

While I was taking pictures of shoes,

I thought I would take more pictures of some of my favorite.

I might be 5' 10"...

but I love my 6" heels.

Another pair of my favorite 6" wedges.

My sister told me I look like a giant,

when I wear heels, but

I LOVE THEM!

Who cares, if I am taller than my husband when I

wear them?

Faux Chenille Blanket

Remember how I told you about the blanket I was making for my daughter?

I finished it in time for Christmas!

It didn't take as long as I thought it would.

It is a twin size quilt

approximately 60"x 86".

So it's big, and soft.

Kay loves it,

We had a great Christmas and New Years.

We saw both sets of Grandparents.

Which was lots of driving,

I can't believe Christmas is here....

This past year has just rocketed by!

I have been working on some presents for this year,

and here is just a sneak peak.

Sorry this is such a terrible picture!

I have been trying to hide this from the lucky child getting it.

I just finished it today!!

It is being washed and we'll see what happens.

I may be slightly nervous.

I followed this tutorial,

which I'm sure everyone has seen.

I just needed an excuse to make 1.

Luckily, my 4 year is (finally) growing and getting too

big for her toddler bed.

I think, if we got the letter in time to Santa,

she might be getting a bigger bed!

We'll see what Santa brings.

Thanksgiving Weekend

We did!

I think I gained about 10 lbs,

no joke.

So much for working out all year.

I whipped out a toy I haven't played with for a while,

This was my first experiment after a long absence of not using it.

It is not the best, but I had fun.

Awhile ago,

my hubby and I splurged on a DSLR camera,

I talk about it here.

I know that post are pathetic!

The whole time I have had this camera,

a few months,

I really haven't needed a tri-pod.

But my hubby came home with this,

the other day.

He got it for free!

Yes, it might be old, but this is in AWESOME

shape.

Seriously, this guy probably never used it.

It still had all the plastic around it!

There is just 1 problem...

When they guy, Quinn,

got this from was putting back in the box,

after showing Quinn,

it broke!

I know! Sad!

Its just a little plastic piece,

but glue, just won't due.

A bushel of Honey Crisp Fall Apples

The in-laws were in town this last weekend,

and they brought us these.

I think my hubby might have squealed

when they brought these in the house.

It's a pretty cool shape.

With two different pieces,

Lace Eternity Scarf

I fell in love with it.

So I made me own.

I found some dainty lace in my stash.

I wish the lace was more, robust,

or maybe thicker.

Whatever this lace is or isn't,

I still like it.

I liked it so much that I....

Made another one.

With some fabric and lace.

These are all made with scrap knit I had.

Don't you love those easy projects

that look like they are a million bucks!?

$3 Fall Wreath

I found this large 18" Wreath at Dollar Tree,

at the beginning of October,

and I only bought 1!

I know, dumb, right?

I figured that I would just change it every season...

we'll see how that goes.

Next to the wreaths at Dollar Tree

was 50 Fall Leaves.

Awesome.

I have my Fall wreath.

My total cost was $3;

I covered the wreath in some brown felt,

I have laying around.

And hot glued the leaves on.

Simple Simple.

I thought it looked a little boring.

I was pursuing around the Anthroplogie website,

Seriously, no idea!

I think it's pretty exciting.

But get this, the real bracelet is $158,

mine was free!

Travel Sign

I was given this awesome piece of wood from a friend

who works at a cabinet shop.

She gave me a whole bunch of scraps,

but I just love this one because of that huge knot!

I knew I wanted to make something out of it,

but I just couldn't think of anything,

I have had this since Christmas last year.

Seriously, brain block!

Then finally I thought of something fun.

I cut off the dove tails, or the little things on the end, and sanded it.

I printed out the word that I wanted,

and because I don't have a silhouette, or cricut, I used the

old fashioned way to trace the letters.

I know, real high tech.

You could also, print the letters on the maps

just make sure to print the mirror image!

Psst...

Don't tell my husband, that I used the road map from the car!

I don't think he will notice!

At least I hope not.

I drew a straight line then added little tick marks where the letters would go.

I wanted to get the spacing right.

I decoupaged the letters on,

then did a couple more layers of decoupage.

The letters in the above picture are not decoupaged,

just so everyone knows.

TA-DA!

Know I have to decide what to do about the knot,

my original plan, was to take out the parts of the "R" and the "A"

that are in the knot, just to show it off.

And distress around the knot, to make it look "traveled".

But once I rip them out, I can't put them back in!!

What do you think?

I need some help here.

She gave me plenty of help too,

She just had to be in one picture.

But that's ok because she is cute!

Ribbon Bangles

It's funny how I get on these "kicks",

right now I think I am on a jewelry making kick.

Like many crafters, I have lots of ribbon.

LOTS.

I thought of this fun idea to use the left over chipboard

ribbon spools, as the bangles!

You need about 3-10 yards of ribbon depending on

how wide the ribbon is.

If possible, try not to cut the ribbon,

just to make sure you have enough to go around the spool.

Here's how to do it!

Tie a simple knot around the spool,

leaving a 1 1/2" tail.

Tuck the tail on the inside of the spool,

this is going to get covered as you go along.

Take your ribbon,

Down, Through, and Pull tight!

Now do it over and over again until your done.

Tie a square knot and cut 1 1/2" ends,

to tuck under the ribbon.

All done!

I wanted to add some sparkle to the bangles,

so I added this leftover chain.

Using the same way as above,

I just threaded the ribbon through a link in the chain.

See how pretty!?

But, uuhhh, this is what happens when the ribbon is too short.

Sad day....

I still think it's pretty.

My Hair

I wanted to show you what my sister-in-law,

and I did to my hair.

What do you think?

She bleached the ends, and random lengths of near the front.

Then used special effects hair dye to dip dye the ends

and dye the red. I only did it last weekend,

and it is already faded so much!

I think it matches my personality,

I think my hubby agrees with me.

I just like how it doesn't look completely fake.

I think I might be hooked!

Refashioned Shorts

A little gathered and over-sized,

but still super cute.

I thought I would refashion a pair of pants,

that are extremely long on Kay.

Which I could actually do to all of her pants,

because she is short.

She actually has never worn these, because it is a million degrees here in the desert.

But, I really like the color.

Just cut off to the length desired.

I wish I had actually cut off a little more length,

then what I did.

Just so you know.

I tension gathered around the bottom of both legs.

Don't gather too much!

It will make the shorts too tight around little thighs!

Using the cut off pants,

Cut two 4"-5" sections.

Try using the bottom part of the pant leg,

because that is usually the straightest part of the pants.

Sew them on the pants.

Hem the bottom,

just to make finishing the shorts easier.

Top stitch and all done!

I promise they are the same length although they may not look it!

I am super excited for Kay to wear these with leggings

and tights in the winter!

YEAH!

Winter, is coming right?

Mu-Mu Refashion

Many of you have read that I just had my 24th birthday

so I am getting up there in years,

so I thought I needed a mu-mu.

Actually not really,

I am aware I am still young and not afraid to act like it too!

Anyway, I got this mu-mu when I was in Idaho.

Everyone thought I was crazy,

for picking this up at a thrift store,

but I really liked the print.

It reminds me of all the tribal prints I have seen lately.

PLUS, it came with a cool printed belt!

Who cares that I can wrap it around me twice!?

I just had to show you the tag,

I thought it was funny.

"For Better Fit"

Especially when there was no shape whatsoever to this mu-mu.

I just made this simple skirt with it.

I cut off the length I wanted and added a waistband.

The length hits me right at the knee.

Here's the back,

I used the front of the dress for the back of my skirt.

I just used the existing buttons for the closure.

I thought it was pretty cleaver.

I was going to take pictures of me in the skirt,

but they never turn out just right,

so I am trying this new method to take pictures of

thing I have made.

I-cord

Back to School!

YEAH!

Oh wait... that really doesn't effect me.

I have a 3 year old.

humm...

Back to school does mean,

Fall or

Autumn.

Which means, yarn crafts!

Knitting and crocheting.

It is still WAY too hot to have a bunch of yarn sitting on my lap,

so sadly I did make these last year,

but just finished them last week!

If you know anything about knitting,

I'm sure you have heard of I-cords.

Here is a great tutorial over at the Purl Bee, if you want to learn.

It is really pretty easy.

I whipped up these cords in no time.

I sewed on ribbon on the end of the I-cord.

Cut a hole in a couple scrap pieces of leather,

and hand sewed the leather in half.

They are a pretty easy accessory

for the coming cold months!

The only difference with the small white bracelet,

is the addition of grommets and a jewelry clasp.

Princess Shoes

Well, after this shoe refashion I said I wouldn't do another one.

Well I did another one.

I know, I am such a liar.

I am really super sorry for the TERRIBLE picture!

They are great little shoes.

Cute hand-me-downs from a friend.

But they just looked really worn out and used,

although everything was still fine.

That's what got me thinking...

I could totally make this a refashion!

I really like how they turned out.

All I did was paint the canvas upper part,

and draw on a design with some fine point sharpies.

I actually cleaned them too,

below is a picture of them before I cleaned them.

I like them better now that they are cleaned.

Kay really likes them,

I hand sewed on some new elastic,

with a bow of course!

This is super simple to do and can save so much money

for back to school!

This would be great to do with teenagers,

let them design their own shoes!

How awesome!

Finally Back

Well, I am back for a little while at least.

We have been all over the past month,

and well, I haven't done any house work for a while,

and MAN even when I am away,

housework piles up!

I wish I was still on the beach,

but sadly, I won't be back for a while.

I still have lots of cleaning to do,

and tons more organizing.

Because......

I got about 40 yards of fabric from

my husbands grandmother.

Try not to be totally jealous.

In the coming days and weeks

I will try to get back into the swing of things,

so please be patient.

Back, But Only For A Few

This weekend,

we will be traveling again,

This past weekend,

we packed our bags and headed up to Manti, Utah.

It was a impromptu trip

with some friends,

and we had a BLAST!

The weather was perfect,

and the company was even better.

to be with family.

It's Been Awhile

It seems I have been neglecting a certain part of this blog,

Can anyone guess?

Maybe...

Patterns??

Well, I know this, and I have been trying to think of something

I could show you that would be easy enough for me to make a pattern for you!

So here it is,

the

Simple Summer Tie Hat!

I have seen these in a few boutiques and other

really "fashionable" places.

But again,

I don't like to pay for something I can make.

Especially something which will take me 10 minutes to make!

Here is a link to the pattern,

if you have any problems, let me know, so I can email it to you.

You only need about 1/4 yard, or scraps work just as well.

Just so you know the pattern does not include

seam allowance!

So cut seam allowance!

How ever much you need!

Cut:

2 semi circles for the brim

1 semi circle of interfacing

1 5"x48" for the tie

Sew the curve of the semi circle and clip

(p.s. I clipped my semi circle lots more than pictured)

If necessary sew the long piece of fabric together,

like I did.

Don't forget

RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER!

See how I clipped that?

Try not to clip through your stitches!

Turn the semi circle right sides out,

and iron.

(Just so everyone knows,

I never ironed anything before starting this blog!

You guys are turning me into a good seamstress!)

Slip the interfacing in.

For this next step,

find the center of your long tie,

and the center of the semi circle.

Try and match them up.

Pin like shown, this is where the semi circle or brim will be placed.

Sew the long tie, but don't sew between the pins.

Turn it right side out,

and iron again.

It will make it so much easier if you do iron.

As much as I hate to admit that.

Slide your semi circle into the opening,

about 1/2".

If desired you can pin.

Top stitch and you are done!

See how easy!?

It looks like some weird bib,

when it is not being worn,

but so cute on.

She wasn't happy with me,

when I took this pictures,

as you can see.

See the cute ties?

This is the first 1 I made,

and I thought that the tie was a bit thick.

But for a bigger child,

that might be nice.

First Attempt

I found this fabric at Joann's

and I'm sure many of you know

Joann's is having a huge sale right now,

so I got a yard for $3.50.

I didn't have a pattern,

I just used some of her swim suits she already had.

It is a little big,

and does gap a little,

but I still like it.

And her little bum.

hee hee

I think she likes it!

Tin Foil Wreath

Do you believe me that this is made of tin foil?

Well it is,

and I am going to show you how.

Here's what you need.

All of this stuff is probably laying around your house,

just waiting to be turned into something exciting!

First start off with a pretty good length of foil.

I used a high-tech devise to get a circle.

A Frisbee!

Really anything can be used to get it round:

a plate, a ball, a drawing of a circle,

or you can just eye it.

I added a few layers of foil,

until it was about 1" thick.

I might have had a little too much fun with picnik!

I then added some crushed paper,

to make it thicker and lighter.

Then added another couple layers of foil.

TA-DA!

You have just made a Tin Foil Wreath.

Have fun making your own!

Personalize to what you like.

Here's what I did:

Gather up your materials.

A flower paper punch.

(I actually borrowed my sisters)

Brad nails

(I used these instead of pins,

because I had them on hand,

and they are SUPER cheap)

and a tin foil wreath.

Shape the flowers.

I used another high-tech device here too.

Needle nosed pliers.

(I was using my finger nail, but

after about the first 50,

it hurt.)

Add the flowers.

My fingers really hurt after I finished.

Sometimes I actually used a little craft hammer I have

to put in the nails.

(Who knew paper could be so hard to poke a hole in!)

I added a ribbon and bow,

made with hot glue.

All done.

If you wanted,

I'm sure you could wrap the wreath in fabric or spray paint it

to cover the silver foil,

but I like the foil shining through.

I think it makes it look fancy,

with the silver shining through.

Plus it matches the silver brad nails!

DI Frame

I know it seems there hasn't been much going on here lately.

But really I have been up to things,

and plan on telling you, soon!

Like this!

There is a story that goes with this frame,

and let me tell you,

it is pretty awesome.

We traveled up to Utah a few weekends ago,

for a wedding.

The wedding wasn't until late that night,

so we spent the day shopping,

and just goofing off.

Something we don't really get the chance to do very often.

On our shopping trip around

the Salt Lake area,

we ended up in West Jordan.

(At least, I think it was,

our navigation was sending us to some weird places)

I spotted a D.I. sign,

so we had to stop and check it out.

(Aren't thrift stores so much better

when they are not in your town?)

Well long story short,

I found this frame and bought it,

HELLO!

$3!?

Of course.

But sadly after much trial and error in the parking lot,

which probably looked super funny

to people passing by,

the stupid frame wouldnt' fit in our trunk!

So this is how it fit.

If you saw us driving down I-15,

yep that was us,

hope you got a good laugh.

I thought I would share this picture with you.

Not only for Kay's crazy hair,

but for the dress.

I am making matching dresses for her and her cousin.

Who could be sister's they look so much alike.

I am not usually a fan of matching clothes,

because my mom made my sisters and I wear the same clothes

ALL the time.

Because I am the youngest,

I got to wear the same dress or outfit for 5 years,

because of hand-me-downs!

But because Kay's cousin doesn't live close.

I am making a simple matching dress,

from vintage knit from Grandma.

I think I might put together a tutorial,

since I haven't done 1 in a while.

How cute are these?

Even better, they are super simple to make.

Grab an old book, and paper punch.

Shape the flower shapes.

Then add a dot of hot glue in the center.

So it holds it fluffy shape.

Glue one layer.

Glue another layer until fluffy and full.

Hot glue a bamboo skewer on.

Make another fluffy flower,

and glue it on.

All done, sit back and enjoy.

Jute Decor Balls

Probably not what you thought.

I am finally trying to fill my tall glass vases,

that I have had for about a year now.

When I was cleaning my daughters toys I found this tennis ball.

Then I thought of this tutorial from V&Co.

I only had 1 small tennis ball,

but it's a start!

I found this jute line

in the hardware department of WalMart.

It was tons cheaper than any thing you would find in the craft department.

Ta-DA!!

Now I just have to make about 5 more.

I think I might take a stroll by the tennis courts,

and dig in some bushes.

Will that make me look homeless?

Lately it seems that everyone has been asking me,

It has been driving me crazy.

I was starting to believe that there should be something wrong.

But I think I have figured it out.

When I am not creating I am different.

I am not sure how to describe it.

So, "different" will have to do.

I have taken it as a sign,

and have started to create like a mad woman.

Here is a glimpse at what I have been making these past few days.

Grandpa and Grandma Ellis engagement photo,

see how beautiful they are.

They were married for 70 years!

Because Grandpa Ellis served his country,

we got to witness a 21 gun salute.

After the funeral, the family was given the empty bullet casings.

I thought what are we going to do with a bullet shell,

besides but it in a memory box.

Really never to be looked at again.

So I thought of this.

The letter "V" for his name Vear.

The fish and fish hook because he loved fishing.

I still have yet to add a deep blue crystal, his favorite color.

I love this tribute to Grandpa.

I might not have known him for a very long time,

but he did make a difference in my life.

I thought it would be nice to have him look at it whenever I wear the necklace.

Look at this fabric,

try not to drool.

Grandma Ellis, gave them to me.

She said the next time I come to visit her,

she will give me more.

Yes, we are going to visit her again in July.

I thought the red white and blue striped fabric

totally reminded me of this dress from Prada.

And this one too.

She is excited to see what I am going to make with them.

Since I don't drink wine,

I had to buy these corks, but

I found these corks on clearance for $1.

So not really an investment.

I carved some fun shapes and designs.

I used fabric paint, but really any acrylic paint can be used.

I did a whole bunch,

but wasn't really thinking....

When you carve letters make sure to carve them backwards.

Just think about it for a while, it will click.

See what I did with the stamps....

Not the most professional, but

for basically free,

they are pretty perfect.

p.s. can you tell I got a new toy?

CSN button review

I got these buttons a few weeks ago from CSN stores,

and I wasn't so sure about them,

as I said in my last post.

But when they came,

I am in love!

Check out how many buttons there are!

They are all different qualities,

from really super awesome,

to something that I will let my daughter play with.

I am excited to add these to my sewing and crafting!

I also got a cookie press which is fun to use,

I didn't think it was hard to use,

or squeeze the dough out of.

Since it came with a few decorator tips,

I am going to have fun with that.

But I plan on using it to inject filling into my cupcakes!

Ummm.... Yummy cupcakes!

It's true,

my brother and sister-in-law are parents!

I wasn't going to tell you,

but she has posted pictures on facebook,

so I can tell you too!

This weekend,

we traveled down to Arizona for the baby shower.

We had so much fun seeing her sweet little face.

She is so super chunky!

(see her eyelids even have rolls!)

She is 10lbs and only 2 weeks old!

Thanks to everyone who was at the baby shower,

and who has been there for Josh and Mo,

through this adoption.

And thanks to the birth mother for her sacrifice,

we love you just as much as we love your gift.

Scary Story

I have to tell you about some scary things that happened.

My sewing machine,

Let me give you a little history.

huummmm, where to begin.

I got my machine,

almost 5 years ago.

And it has been moved to 4 different states,

and has been a champ.

Since we moved here to this little town,

and I have a craft room,

I have used it almost everyday,

but it still is working great!

I love things that work, like there supposed to.

Anywho, the past month,

it hasn't been working right!!

I know!!

This is especially horrible, for me!

I did everything that I could think of to fix it,

besides taking it a shop.

(I really have a problem with paying someone

to fix things for me)

Well, I took it apart.

At least, the body cover, things.

I found a thread that wasn't supposed to be there,

causing all of this heartache.

After oiling and cleaning everything,

I put it back together.

I started to sew,

...................fffrrroo0o0o0o0o0o0oom.................

(that's my machine working)

.....RGFKJHKEYRKJBFKAJFH.....pah..

(that's my machine not working)

Frustration.

GRRR....

The motor stopped going!

Well, I took it apart again.

The knob on the side would turn backward,

but not forward.

Explain THAT!

I was starting to break down a

teensy bit.

Knight in shining armor!

My husband.

He would be the first to admit he knows nothing about sewing machines,

but he sure has good timing.

He looked at it for about 2 minutes,

"This screw is loose."

He says.

After I put it back together,

my machine has never worked better.

The knob has a screw in it,

and when I walk the foot forward,

it loosen the screw.

But when I walk the foot back, it tightens the screw,

bad design there!

Disaster averted for now,

hopefully all will be well in this household,

for a while.

I'll will be crossing my fingers just in case!

Pentel Pastel Fabric Dye Sticks

So I got these cool fabric dye pastels from CSN stores.

Look at the pretty colors!!

Anyway,

I ordered these Monday, and got them on Tuesday.

Seriously! That is some FAST shipping.

Which is awesome!

Especially since, I don't live in a huge city, actually I live in a little tiny

'blink and you miss it' kind of town.

So I started to have some fun with these pastels.

I know my designs are magical.

I was trying to blend them,

like pastels usually do,

these pastels, don't really blend well with your finger...

But the colors are bight and fun.

All the instructions say to do,

is color your designs,

put paper over them and iron.

So I did.

Here's what they look like after.

Just the same....

No blending of any sort.

But check this out.

When I took another scrap of white cotton and rubbed it over the design,

Color came off.

Hummmm.....

I washed them, and rubbed some more white cotton over the design.

The same thing happened.

Just to be clear, I wasn't scrubbing this super vigorously.

But just lightly running my hand across the design,

I didn't get any dye on my hands.

I think I would probably use these for:

Wall hangings,

small craft projects where I could but a sealer over the colors,

and

home decor projects that aren't touched a lot.

That being said, I really do the love the colors,

but the baby rompers,

I had planned to use these on

will have to wait for something else.

with KNITS!

I have had so much fun sewing with all of these knit fabrics I have gotten recently.

I know the background is not blue,

but seriously,

I woke up, but on these clothes and took pictures.

See how much I love you?

This is something I whipped up really fast,

based off the kimono tee

from burda. Although I did this in 2 pieces.

It's slightly boring,

so I plan on adding something....

What do you think I should add?

On a side note,

we get awesome finds, by the

DUMPSTER.

Someone threw this out.

So we took it,

(no, it wasn't IN the dumpster, just by the side of the dumpster.

So, no climbing in the dumpster for this.)

I've already got my hubby making it look more modern.

Now, I just have to sand it down and paint it.

I'm thinking a glossy yellow, or green.

My hubby is thinking a distressed blue.

We need some help.

This is going to go up in our bedroom,

which is right now, blue and white.

I desperately want to add more color to the room.

And make it feel more eclectic.

P.S. My hubby doesn't like brown,

so we aren't going that way.

Bean Crate Baskets

Have you heard of bountiful baskets?

Well I got these awesome bean crates from them.

They are not super amazing high quality,

but they will be awesome for my entertainment center.

I found this awesome fabric

for $4.99 a yard.

Which is expensive for my taste,

but it has an awesome woven texture.

I also only needed 4 yards,

so for custom baskets,

that isn't bad.

Check out my awesome math skills!

I know, I know.

Geometry was my strong suit.

I wanted some organization,

so I added some pockets.

For the necessities.

Like Wii remotes.

See how organized?

(We have more remotes, just in case you were wondering...)

But slightly boring....

It's awesome, what freezer paper can do.

These were inspired by some other tutorials

I have seen around the blog world.

I really like them.

CSN Store Review

So guess what?!

CSN stores wants to do another review with me.

I am totally excited.

This second time around I am going to see what fun stuff

I can find from their store.

That maybe you wouldn't notice in a store like that.

Like these:

I am totally excited to try these babies out!

I have some fun ideas already being cooked up in my little head,

with these awesome colors.

What about these:

I can almost guarantee that these buttons are not going to be the highest quality,

but I am excited to see what they are going to be like.

I guess that is why I am doing this review, huh!!

There seems to be lots of fun colors, for different

crafts that I can do with Kay.

Plus $6.75 for a huge bucket o' buttons?!

Come on...

Last but not least there is:

I have been wanting 1 of these for a while.

With Kay getting so big and wanting to decorate

cupcakes and cookies every other day,

I thought this would be a fun addition to the mess we make.

I'm excited!

To be completely honest, it was a super hard decision, because,

they have everything!

I was thinking about getting a comfy chair,

because I am sitting on a hard metal folding chair.

I know, glamorous!

Something else I considered,

How awesome would this be to organize all your fabric!?

I don't think I ever showed you, but my Mother-in-Law gave me tons (TONS!!) of fabric,

knits, cottons, flannel, and lots of lace trim.

This blue stripe was a knit she gave me, of course,

because I LOVE stripes, I gladly took this.

I just made this simple shirt,

using Gap's Favorite Crew Neck shirt as a pattern.

This took no time at all,

maybe half hour from start to finish.

Although I do tend to loose track of time, when I am sewing,

so it could have taken longer.

I need your opinion....

which background do you like better?

The dark blue, or my craft room?

Blue Sun Shirt Refashion

I was given this shirt by my mother,

It's just a little blah....

YEAH!! Refashion!!

I'm not a huge fan of v-necks,

so I changed that first.

See how pretty....

I went through some knit scraps and gathered up

some different blue tones.

I sewed over theses a couple times.

I added some folded circles,

layered over each other.

Starting to look fun!

The hardest part of the whole thing,

Open the folded circles,

and sew where the pins are, just about 1/4".

So they can still ruffle up.

See no seams!!

A little ruffled,

we'll see what happens once it's washed.

(cross your fingers it will look good!)

This is what it looks like on.

Already turned inside out waiting to be changed.

With a change of collar,

The Hardest Decision

A Necklace and Sneak Peek

I am still sewing like crazy for some reason,

but I thought I would give you a break,

and show you a necklace instead.

A few strands of seed beads

with some swarovski crystals thrown in.

And a simple bow on

each side.

Just a simple necklace,

but just right.

CSN Shoes review!

So I got my shoes, and I really like them!

I have to be honest,

I don't actually love them,

but I wear them.

I guess I have a love hate relationship with these shoes.

I love the color,

but the sides of the shoe go so low on the sides of me feet, they look

silly from my point of view.

My hubby says they look like they are going to fall off.

Anyway,

I love the grommets in the ruffle,

but some of the grommets are a little smashed and bent.

Easy fix, so I am not worried about that.

I am not so sure on the sizing,

but maybe I just have a huge long big toe,

who knows?

But I will say,

CSN stores did a great job, getting my order done fast,

and they shipped my order a day early,

just because it was ready!

I thought that was awesome.

Reverse Applique Rose Skirt

Well, sadly this is the conclusion of

Skirt Week!

I found this skirt from a awesome clothing site, Poetrie.

But I am not one to buy expensive skirts.

So I decided to try my hand at it.

Turned out it was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be.

After much consideration and drawing it out on paper,

I decided to try it out on some scraps.

My first attempted failed.

My second attempt was better,

but I still failed.

3rd times the charm!

I got it!

Check it out!

See!

I know it is not perfect, but after trying for so long,

I think it's AWESOME!

All trimmed up.

The front.

It's cut!

Look at tall the layers!

I decided to zig zag the edge,

because it added a little fray that I like,

and kept it from fraying too much.

All done.

I'm sad that the rose can't be seen more,

but maybe I will do more roses,

when I feel like it!

Button Tab Skirt

I know I promised this would be up yesterday,

but it seems time escaped me and all the sudden I was waking up this morning!

Anyway,

Here is the Button Tab Skirt Tutorial

Sorry for the bad pictures,

I'm not sure what was going on with my camera,

no matter what settings I put it on, this is the best I got from it!

Gather your materials:

Brown 30"x 7"

Polka-dot for skirt 30"x 8"

(Shown but not cut)

Back waistband 19"x 5"

Front Waistband 11"x 5"

Tabs (2) 3"x 7"

2 Buttons

elastic

We're going to start with the back of the waistband.

Fold the waistband in half,

but leave between 1/2"-1" out.

Believe me.

Just have faith, this will make everything easier,

and more comfy for the wearer.

Sew across the waistband

to make a casing for the elastic.

Thread your elastic through,

and sew down the ends to secure elastic in place.

I realize I should have ironed this fabric,

but I had the idea and didn't want to lose it before I made it.

My mind tends to wander when I am ironing.

Sew the tabs.

Sew the waistband together.

Short side to short side.

Fold over and hide the raw edges in the inside.

(Does that make sense??)

Disregard the tabs sewn on to the waistband,

it's better to wait.

Now sew on the tabs

and add your buttons.

These are none functioning tabs.

If you want them to work,

by all means have fun with it.

Now on to the skirt.

Hem the polka-dot/print part of the skirt.

Fold the brown in half and sew right along the edge.

Fold it over and sew again,

this hides all the raw edges.

I cheated and used my serger.

Now sew the short side of the waistband to the skirt.

I had to add a little pleat in the front,

which you might have to also.

But I think I fixed it for you.

Use the long side of the waistband to hide all the raw edges!

Fold over like shown and sew.

SEE!?! Told you!

So much better than all those raw edges on their waists.

Oh man, she has crazy hair!

Only 1 more skirt then skirt week is all done!

Hopefully this has gotten you ready for

spring skirt wearing!

Vintage Lace Ruffle Skirt

I think I might be done with simple skirts....

This skirt is slightly more complicated.

You CAN do it!

Gather your materials.

13"x 44" rectangle for the skirt

Probably close to 4-5 yards of lace.

Sew your lace on.

Again, I just went for it, no pinning for me!

Once the lace is sewn on, fold back as shown above.

See I actually pinned that one!

I folded back about 6 inches.

Pin in place.

Hem the bottom and set aside.

This is obviously being down on both sides of the skirt.

Now onto the ruffle bum.

15"x 13" white piece.

Hem the bottom.

Sew on all the lace!

I mixed lace!

Shh.... don't tell!

Ohhh.... pretty ruffles!

These next couple of steps I didn't take pictures!

If you have any questions just let me know!!

Lay the lace ruffle in the skirt.

Overlap the skirt on top, enough to give you space for elastic.

I gave myself 2" from the tip of the triangle to the top of the fabric.

but I recommend more,

give yourself 3" maybe more

depending on how wide your elastic is.

Sew on the lace.

I sewed down the side of the triangle then just sewed on the green lines

when I got to the lace.

I didn't want the lace tacked down to the skirt.

Here is the view from the back.

Hopefully this makes sense!!

I trimmed all the extra white off,

as you can see.

Add your elastic waist,

and your done!

I bet you are wondering about the towel...

I have discovered if I lay a towel down while I am trying to take pictures,

She STAYS on the towel!

The lace doesn't exactly match up, but

I was always taught,

close enough is good enough....

Of course that was in Statistics in college....

humm...

I am using math in real life!!

I just like this picture.

Her hair is crazy and her shirt doesn't match the skirt,

but this picture seems to wrap up Kay nicely.

Knit Ruffle Skirt

This is another simple skirt made completely from knit fabric.

I originally got the inspiration awhile ago, from Dana of MADE.

She made the Can-Can skirt which is pattern is available in her shop.

I just simplified the skirt a bit.

I am actually going to cheat today and

not really give you a step by step tutorial....

Please don't hate me...

I cut out 2 of these,

you can cut on the fold,

but this was made from a whole bunch on knit scraps.

See! Check out all the knit scraps I got from my Mother-in-law!

And this is just the blue!

I cut the knit to about 11/2" and tensioned ruffled it on my sewing machine.

The added it to the skirt.

The waistband is simple elastic.

Ribbon Accent Skirt

So begins SKIRT WEEK!

I am excited to show you how to make some

SUPER SIMPLE

skirts!

Let's start off with the simplest first.

I call this the Ribbon Accent Skirt.

It is amazing how a little ribbon can make such a big difference.

Gather your ribbon, I didn't buy any of this ribbon for this skirt,

I just happen to have all this pink ribbon about.

But any combination of colors would be SO cute!

I think I am going to make a navy blue one, maybe a purple.....

maybe a yellow with white ribbon....

I'm getting distracted, as you can see...

Your limits are your own imagination!

Sew a simple rectangle skirt.

I cut out two 10"x 41" rectangles, and sewed them together.

I hemmed the bottom and made a casing for the elastic on top.

I didn't add the elastic yet, because it will be a million times easier to sew in the ribbon,

without the elastic in.

Lay out the ribbon.

This was my original plan on how I wanted the ribbon,

but I got lazy and simplified.

Sew the ribbon on!

I have mentioned this before, but I will say it again.

I am not a huge fan on straight pins.

I don't like taking the time to use them,

so when I sewed the ribbon on,

I just went for it!

And Hey! It turned out pretty straight!

I wouldn't take a ruler to it, but for a not stop 3 year old,

who will be wearing this,

no one will notice!

Add your elastic, and your done!

I thought it needed a little extra something,

so I made a little burned edge rose that I added on.

The weather in more than half the country is still cold and snowing,

I wouldn't say that I am the biggest fan of Harry Potter,

I am sure there are bigger fans out there.

But when I saw this scarf I fell in love.

But seriously, I saw this pattern on this website,

and I decided to try it out.

This is my first attempt at doing anything extremely multi-colored,

and I think it is going pretty well.

I have decided to start something fun... in a couple days... we shall see!!

This is something I am really excited about.

CSN stores asked me if I would review something from their stores and well....
After much thinking and debating, I came up with these shoes.
How cute are they?!

I am excited to show them to you and excited to make an outfit to match!

The hardest part is having to wait until they get here!

Well, I can't remember if I told you, but I got tons (TONS!) of fabric from my mother-in-law.

I just whipped this up this weekend. But now I am stuck

and need your help!
